Palm Pixi Thinks It’s A Palm Pre

November 19, 2009

palm-pixi-wants-to-be-a-pre

Everyone knows that the Palm Pre in grand appreciation of the Blackberry, adds a signature to all emails sent from the phone with the text “Sent from my Palm Pre”. As opposed to the “Sent from a Blackberry” kind of thing. However the Palm Pixi now wants to get in on the act, and it would be safe to presume that the signature it would choose would be “Sent from my Palm Pixi”, however presumption is a dangerous business.

The photo above shows a Palm Pixi thinking it is a Palm Pre and adding a signature to the emails it sends reading “Sent from my Palm “, someone forgot to update some small little things.

Ctrl + Alt + Del Palm Pre Style

Reset Options Palm Pre

The way you judge any piece of kit you have is it’s usefulness when you really need it, and you never really need your phone more then when you are hundreds of miles from home. So on my trip to the big smoke (London) the Palm Pre was meant to be entertainment on the way down , but also a way to communicate with home when there.  There is no doubting the fact that smartphones have brought information to our finger tips this was proven on the journey to London. Wikipedia is a great source when you want to find out information such has how Caviar is harvested , and the Palm Pre is a great phone to give you access to that information quickly.

Palm Pre Bottom Of The Twitter Charts

November 15, 2009

There are many measures as to the popularity of something, those measures have changed as time has gone by. Now we are in the age of Facebook and Twitter, so we express ourselves through micro-blogging and status updates.  Where there is an opinion there will be some marketing guru trying to measure that opinion.  Trendrr do just this with the social media and they have come up with some interesting stats about what people are Tweeting.

The graph above shows people use Twitter to Tweet about their smartphones it cleverly breaks it down into types of Smartphones, iPhone , Palm Pre etc. For Palm Pre fans it is not good reading. The tweets about iPhone are way ahead, with the Blackberry doing quite well, Android and Droid are both getting a lot of chirp about them, but the Palm Pre is almost off the scale, that’s the bottom of the scale (not the top).

More info on the actual figures can be found here , but in terms of general trends not only is the Palm Pre the worst performer but it is also on a downward trend, being down 10.73% in the period between 21st October and 11th November. The Droid is creating a real buzz going up over 300% , the iPhone and Android (OS) are also both up. The Blackberry is down 15% but it still gets 10 times more tweets than the Palm Pre.

Does this mean Palm Pre users just don’t use Twitter, does it mean we are just less in your face about our phones, we don’t like telling the world we all have a Pre by tweeting “hey guys I’m waiting for a Plane , playing with my Pre” or “I’m on the plane , my Pre is there too ” , or “Hey have you seen this new app, its so cool , sending this from my Pre”

WebOS 1.3.1 Hits US , In UK By The End Of November

November 14, 2009

The new update for WebOS , have become available for Palm Pre owners in the US, with a whole bunch of new features available. For those of us in Europe we will have to wait until the end of the month before we get our updates, not too long to go now.

A few key features that stuck out for me were:

  • Yahoo now supported in Synergy
  • Yahoo! IM is available as an instant messaging account.
  • Text message forwarding

There are no new generic applications though.  If you want to see more about the improvements to WebOS go here.

Should Palm Be Looking For A Buyer?

November 14, 2009

Palm Logo

There have been constant rumours about Palm being up for sale or a potential buyout bid coming from X and Y company, the latest rumour is that of Nokia getting ready for a bid on Palm.  This has been combined with a fall in share price for Palm during October 2009 making it one of the worst months for the company, despite launching it’s flagship Palm Pre in Germany, Spain and the UK in the same month.  It seems no one has missed an opportunity to have a stab at Palm, even those who were raving about it’s products months earlier are now saying that it is in essence finished as a competitor in the smartphone sector.

Bearing all the above in mind it is no surprise that rumours about Nokia buying Palm have surfaced, if there is any truth in the matter remains to be seen.  All this speculation means that potential buyers will be alerted to possibly getting Palm for a cheaper price if they buy when it is being outdone by it’s competitors.  However there is a question that remains to be answered , Does Palm need a buyer?

Palm Pre Surrounded By Apple iPhone

November 14, 2009

Palm Pre Iphone Advert

If you have ever wondered what it must feel like being the Plam Pre in a world dominated by the Apple iPhone, then the image above gives some kind of idea. As the iPhone in the UK is getting ready for allowing users to watch Premier League football on their phones, the Palm Pre is just setting off on it’s smartphone journey.

The Palm Pre advert finds itself buried in amongst, Apple iPhone this and iPhone that it seems it is hard to get your voice heard when you are the new player in any game, smartphones are no different.

November 12, 2009

Palm Pre Mexico

The Palm Pre is spreading it’s wings and being laucnhed in Mexico with the big event taking place on the 27th November, making it a busy month for Palm.  It can only be a good thing to see the Palm Pre going to other countries the more exposure for WebOS the better.

The telcoms company Telcel will be carrying the Pre and with it being the largest in Mexico it is hoped it will thus be best suited to get as many handsets out there as possible.

For more information you can go to the Palm Mexico site (Spanish Language)

Palm Pre In Top Ten Smartphones Of 2009 – Digital Trends

November 11, 2009

Palm Pre Smartphone

Digital Trends has put the Palm Pre in the Top 10 smartphones of 2009, there is no clear labels in terms of positions but it appears after the Droid and iPhone on the list not too sure that means it is in 3rd.

It is not a real surprise that the Palm Pre is in the Top 10 as there is no doubt it is a great piece of kit, the sceptics have been saying that it hasn’t lived up to its hype but it hasn’t done to badly either. 2010 is a key year for the Pre and Palm as it will define if the much awaited app store can really make an impact on the smartphone market.

So How Does This Little Baby Charge Your Palm Pre?

November 10, 2009

Plam Pre Charger

Take one Palm Pre – Check

Take one Palm Pre Charger By CelletCheck

Plug said Palm Pre into said Charger – Check

What happens? Well according to all ration-  Nothing should , as the Pre charging port is on the side and not at the bottom, in fact nothing is at the bottom.  So I cannot work out along with other bloggers how this thing would charge your Palm Pre.

In fact it can’t do anything but be a nice Pre stand as it is shown in the photo , not even a nice one to be honest.  What I don’t get is with the touchstone out there taking the Palm Pre to the next level why would you want this anyway.

I guess this picture is just a marketing ploy to make it look all iPodish, I like my touchstone better!!
