Many moons ago before Hotmail and Yahoo were big email sites there was R, a company which Yahoo eventually bought. This meant that all Rocketmail users (like myself) would have to use the Yahoo infrastructure and mail front end to access emails. So in essence you have a Yahoo account without the Yahoo label.
Try telling your Palm Pre that it for some reason doesn’t recognise Rocketmail as a part of yahoo, whereas with a normal Yahoo account all you have to do to get email is.
1. Enter full Yahoo email address
2. Enter password
Then your Pre will synch with this email address and hey presto all done.
With a Rocketmail account you must manually set up the email server details, this took me quite a while to figure out as I was using the details given in the Yahoo Mail Plus information. However a quick search on google soon reveled that Palm have their own sub domain of mail servers at Yahoo and it is these details you need.

The steps setting up quite simple the key one is making sure you are connecting to an Imap account and not Pop as this won’t work, also with O2 how it is I had to try and do it a few times before it worked.
The server settings in case you cant get them from the images above are:
Incoming server settings:
palm.imap.mail.yahoo.com
username = e-mail address
password = input password
Port = 993
Encrytption = SSL
Outgoing server settings:
palm.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Use Authentication = ON
username = e-mail address
password = input password
Port = 465
Encryption = SSL
